Hepatitis C Allies of Philadelphia (HepCAP) aims to increase awareness of Hepatitis C, while improving local Hep C prevention, testing, and treatment services. Over 40,000 Philadelphians are estimated to be living with hepatitis C, a chronic virus that can cause cirrhosis, liver cancer and death. Up to 75% of people living with hepatitis C do not know they are infected. In the next 20 years, hundreds of thousands of people in the US could die of liver cancer or advanced liver disease related to hepatitis C, many because they did not know their status earlier. People who have hepatitis C need to be linked into care to have their disease monitored, consider treatment options, and learn how to keep their liver healthy.
