JOB SUMMARY

The Prevention Manager will be responsible for coordination of activities related to viral hepatitis prevention, including outreach, training, education and collaboration with appropriate programs to facilitate access to hepatitis services.  This position works in close coordination with viral hepatitis surveillance activities.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

               Responsibilities/Duties

  • Strategic planning for prevention, community collaboration, patient outreach, and policy-related activities for Viral Hepatitis Program.
  • Coordinate outreach, education and access to healthcare services for those at highest risk for hepatitis B & C infections in Philadelphia.
  • Supervise administrative and logistic activities for the Hepatitis C Allies of Philadelphia (HepCAP) coalition to mobilize city stakeholders to improve the delivery of hepatitis C services including prevention, diagnosis, care, and support services.
  • Organize and convene HepCAP citywide and steering committee meetings.
  • Create and foster working relationships with relevant organizations, community members, and government agencies to support coordinated interventions and efforts.
  • Collaborate with state and national partners to advance viral hepatitis elimination goals and objectives in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and nationally.
  • Provide technical assistance to improve the delivery of viral hepatitis services in Philadelphia.
  • Supervise and manage 2-4 staff executing prevention, policy, integration and communications activities
  • Supervise programming focused on integration of harm reduction and infectious disease consequences of substance use
  • Assist in grant writing and submission of local and federal cooperative agreements and funding opportunities.
  • Develop and provide training, education, and presentations for viral hepatitis targeted to at-risk individuals and providers who serve the general public as well as at-risk populations.
  • Oversee online education and marketing campaigns through various modalities including newsletters, websites, social media, etc.
  • Collaborate closely with the Hep B United coalition to develop culturally-competent strategies to improve access to hepatitis B services in high risk populations, including foreign-born Asian and African communities.
  • Participate in program dissemination and manuscript preparation activities.
  • Produce grant deliverables for federal partners in timely manner.
  • Participate in local, state and national conferences, conference calls and workgroups addressing viral hepatitis and related public health topics.
  • Identify clinical and social service settings where adults at risk for viral hepatitis receive services, and promote integration of viral hepatitis prevention, vaccination and testing programs into those settings.
  • Facilitate and coordinate with disease surveillance and data management activities through close work with the viral hepatitis surveillance team.
  • Support program management through fiscal and budgetary activities, as necessary
  • Participate in emergency preparedness exercises and real response activities at the discretion of the Viral Hepatitis Manager and Division Director.

Education

  • Bachelor’s level degree, an MPH or related graduate degree, preferred.
  • 4 years’ minimum experience may be considered in lieu of graduate education.

Skills/Experience

  • 3+ years’ experience in viral hepatitis, public health, and harm reduction (after education/experience).
  • Experience providing training and/or technical assistance to organizations and staff.
  • Experience grant writing.
  • 3+ years’ experience with project management in the public health field .
  • 3+ years’ experience supervising and managing staff.
  • Superior networking and community engagement skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize projects and manage time effectively.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented.
  • Flexibility and willingness to learn new tasks quickly.
  • Excellent writing, communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
  • Cultural competency regarding populations impacted by viral hepatitis including ethnic minorities, people who use drugs, and LGBTQ people.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Word, Power Point, and Excel.
  • Familiarity with WordPress, preferred.

Work Environment:  Standard office setting or hybrid with at-home time, in accordance with City of Philadelphia guidelines.

Position Type and Work Schedule:  Full time position, typical hours are Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.  Work location is the Philadelphia Department of Health Division of Disease Control office at 1101 Market St. 12th Floor in Philadelphia. Remote work may be integrated depending on City of Philadelphia/Health Department policy.

Travel:  This position requires minimal travel for local meetings and 2-3 overnight trips annually for conferences and meetings.

Physical Demands: Ability to transport materials for occasional outreach activities and events; walking to meetings in nearby offices.
