JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Accountant will provide general ledger oversight and grant management support to meet the organization’s reporting requirements.  Must have the ability to understand and interpret multiple grant awards and requirements. This position requires the ability to manage financial regulations, agreements, and award documents to monitor financial compliance and ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.

The Senior Accountant must exercise high confidentiality and sound judgment in safeguarding company records and working with grantors, grantees, and Health Federation staff. 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

               Responsibilities/Duties

  • Review and monitor general ledger activity to ensure accurate processing of journal entries, reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, and resolution of open items in a timely manner.
  • Review financial activity for specific grants and contracts for accuracy and compliance, and resolve issues to ensure accurate reporting.
  • Monitor accounts receivable and ensures timely collection of payments and posting.
  • Manage the Bank reconciliation process and monitor cash activity.
  • Oversee payroll labor distribution for grants and contracts.
  • Maintain and update audit work papers in accordance with required audit and specific award requirements.
  • Provide agency forecast and budget vs actual reporting to Senior Staff.
  • Provide support for Month end close.
  • Assist the Senior Director in preparing the annual budget for the Agency and required reporting and updates to the Board of Directors.
  • Lead system utilization of Blackbaud Financial Edge by updating processes and procedures, report writing, software updates, and full system integration. 
  • Participate and develop and implement training and education programs that help promote a clear understanding of the financial management process.
  • Communicate with funders regarding related questions and information.
  • Resolve a variety of program funding issues that arise on an as-needed basis
  • Maintain regular communications with program managers and funders. 
  • Other duties as assigned

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business required.  MBA or CPA preferred.

Skills/Experience

  • Must possess 3+ years of general ledger management experience.
  • Knowledge of federal grant compliance and requirements.
  • Experience with non-profit accounting, Blackbaud Financial Edge software a plus.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work with a team are essential.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Expert use of MS Excel and Word.
  • Must be a self-starter and be able to meet required deadlines

Work Environment:  Standard office setting with extended periods at work station and periodic use of office equipment.

Position Type and Work Schedule  Full-time position, typical hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.  Flex office schedule options are available with supervisor approval.

Travel:  Occasional travel to off-site locations.

Physical Demands  Ability to transport materials routinely moves equipment or supplies weighing up to 30 lbs.
