Qualitative Research Intern

JOB SUMMARY

The position of Qualitative Research Intern is an internship within the Maternal, Child, and Family Health (MCFH) Division of the Philadelphia Department of Public Health (PDPH). The primary responsibilities for the Qualitative Research Intern will be to assist the MCFH Qualitative Research Coordinator with various components of research and evaluation activities involving the division’s programs, namely the Vaccine Confidence Project.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

          Responsibilities/Duties

  • Assist with recruitment of research participants- including outreach and scheduling data collection interviews and/or focus groups.
  • Assist with conducting interviews and/or facilitating focus groups.
  • Transcribe interview and focus group recordings.
  • Analyze qualitative data including developing and/or refining codebooks.
  • Summarize findings, create project reports and presentations.
  • Conduct literature reviews in support of research activities.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in the field of social sciences or public health.
  • Demonstrative knowledge and experience involving qualitative research methods. 

Skills/Experience

  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to organize and present information effectively.
  • Demonstrative skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Power Point).
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience using qualitative software, such as NVivo, preferred.
  • Spanish proficiency is preferred.

Work Environment:

Standard office setting at workstation and periodic use of office equipment. This position will initially be fully remote and may transition to in-person work in accordance with public health guidance. A laptop will be provided for the duration of the internship.

Position Type and Work Schedule:

Internship from May-August 2024 (Summer Internship) with the possibility of an extension through the fall semester, ending in December 2024. Hours are flexible, but he/she/they will be required to work 10-20 hours per week (minimum of 10 hours), between the hours of Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.

Travel:  Local travel to multiple sites and community meetings, upon request.

Physical Demands:  Transporting materials is limited to travel, if needed.

Salary and Benefits:  The Qualitative Research Intern will be paid $5,000 per semester (Summer 2024 and Fall 2024).
