Navigators assist hundreds in first six weeks of open enrollment

The Health Federation’s Navigator team have been busy since the Affordable Care Act’s second open enrollment period began on November 15.  Staff placed at City Health Centers, Community College of Philadelphia, and library branches, as well as in our Center City offices have (as of 12/31):

  • Assisted 407 consumers with Marketplace or health coverage related questions by phone
  • Completed 650 one-on-one appointments for education (64) and enrollment assistance (586).
  • Supported 196 consumers in selecting a Marketplace plan during a Navigator appointment (many more selected a plan on their own or were transferred to Medicaid).
  • Assisted 419 consumers with completing COMPASS applications for Medicaid expansion access

We continue to work with many consumers who have complicated immigration situations and low English proficiency.

The second year of enrollment in Affordable Care Act health plans has gone more smoothly than year one, but Navigators and Assisters still face many barriers when helping consumers, including a lot of confusion over Pennsylvania’s new coverage expansion program.  For assistance with enrollment into Marketplace plans or with an application for the expanded Medicaid program, please call 215-977-7255 or email navigator@healthfederation.org.
