JOB SUMMARY
This position will serve as the epidemiologist for the division of Substance Use Prevention and Harm Reduction’s (SUPHR) Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) Surveillance and Outreach program, providing data support for all related surveillance and outreach activities. The person filling this position will be responsible for maintaining, organizing, cleaning, and analyzing NAS surveillance and outreach data. Additionally, this person will coordinate and execute the completion of deliverables associated with the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologist (CSTE) NAS funding opportunity, working closely with the CSTE and Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) partners.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Under the supervision of the NAS Program Manager, the NAS Surveillance Epidemiologist will perform the following essential job functions:
- Maintain data collection systems used for NAS surveillance, specifically REDCap and Maven, a database management system
- Develop and implement procedures for effective data management
- Regular reporting of surveillance and outreach data to internal and external partners
- Preparation of data for analysis, including regular data cleaning to ensure accuracy and completeness
- Create and maintain a public facing NAS data dashboard
- Support data needs associated with grant funding deliverables such as conducting a feasibility analysis to assess longitudinal surveillance of infants diagnosed with NAS
- Analysis of surveillance and outreach data, disseminating findings to relevant partners
- Perform routine data matches to internal and external data sources
- Contribute to the preparation of manuscripts to be published in appropriate journals
- Serve as representative for program during conferences and meetings with partners, including clinical providers
- Interdepartmental collaboration with other perinatal and child focused programs
- Participate in topic area work groups and committees
EDUCATION
Master’s degree in public health, public health administration or a related field, with a concentration in epidemiology or biostatistics; AND one (1) or more years of fulltime work experience in data management or analytics, or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the necessary level of skill, knowledge and ability.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
- Computer proficiency, particularly in Microsoft Office Suite, REDCap, Canva, and virtual meeting platforms
- Strong analytical abilities in utilizing statistical packages, including Excel, SAS, R, ArcGIS, Tableau, etc.
- Strong critical thinking skills
- Excellent organizational skills

- Ability to multitask, prioritizing projects and managing time effectively

- Curiosity about the functions, policies, and protocols of City departments and services. Experience in Local or State government is a plus, but not necessary.

WORK ENVIRONMENT Standard office setting with extended periods at workstation and periodic use of office equipment.
POSITION TYPE AND WORK SCHEDULE Full time position, typical hours are Monday through Friday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Flex office schedule options available with supervisor approval.
