The Health Federation of Philadelphia’s Building Digital Resiliency Project was among six local programs to receive funding through the City of Philadelphia’s Digital Literacy Alliance this fall. The funding opportunity focused on supporting new ways to engage Philadelphians as volunteers, peer leaders, and community ambassadors.
Over the next two years, the Building Digital Resiliency Project, led by Holly Hainsworth and Kiera Kenney, will place two Digital Health Navigators in public health-focused community-based organizations and/or community health centers in Philadelphia and provide Digital Health Navigation training to National Health Corps volunteers and other frontline staff to support improving the use of digital health tools and access to healthcare through digital inclusion. Ultimately, the goal of this program is to provide capacity building for CHWs, Peer Support Workers, Digital Health Navigators, and other staff citywide to provide and expand digital health navigation services in the communities in which they live and work to lessen the digital divide.
“We know that access to technology, digital skills, and internet connectivity impacts access to healthcare and can inform health outcomes,” says Holly Hainsworth, Director of Population Health Initiatives and one of the leads on this project. “Cultivating a workforce that can support patients and communities in accessing and leveraging these tools in healthcare spaces is a critical component of improving health equity.”
The Building Digital Resiliency Project received $40,000 in funding for two years via the Digital Literacy Alliance.
“The goal of the Digital Literacy Alliance is to lift up promising ideas that connect digital inclusion to Philadelphia’s highest need communities, and this year we’re excited to activate local residents to take on this charge,” said Juliet Fink Yates, Broadband and Digital Inclusion Manager for the City’s Office of Innovation and Technology.
The Digital Literacy Alliance (DLA) is a coalition of digital inclusion partners working to overcome the digital divide in Philadelphia.
