Unity Recovery

September is National Recovery Month. For this month, we are highlighting the great work done by Unity Recovery.

Unity is a recovery community organization that offers free peer-based recovery support services to individuals and family members living with substance use or mental health concerns, or in recovery from those concerns. 

They offer several dedicated programs, including Reentry Recovery Support Services, as well as:

  • General Community Recovery Support Services: 17+ years old, mental health and/or substance use concerns. Services include 1:1 peer services with a focus on recovery planning, resource navigation, group-based recovery supports (mutual aid meetings + life skills workshops, and all community activities at our RCC
  • Employment Recovery Support Services / Recovery Friendly Workplaces: 17+ years old, mental health and/or substance use concerns with a goal of securing gainful employment. Services include our general community recovery support services + dedicated employment support services and workshops.
  • Family Recovery Support Services: 17+ years old, family member or loved one impacted by mental health and/or substance use concerns. Our general recovery support services framework, but delivered directly to family members or loved ones.
  • Pregnancy and Postpartum Recovery Support Services: 17+ years old, currently pregnant or postpartum mothers (up to 2 years post birth) dealing with mental health or substance use concerns). Includes our general recovery support services as well as enhanced care coordination (pre/post-natal health care coordination, housing, child care, etc).
  • Community-based Harm Reduction Services: Low-threshold program with no eligibility requirements or restrictions. Services include community-based pop-up events and outreach where harm reduction and daily essential supplies (safer use kits (injection and smoking drug use), sex worker kits, hygiene kits, clothing, personal wound care kits, cold weather kits, etc) are distributed; street-based wound care services delivered by outreach workers and a harm reduction nurse; peer-based care coordination for requesting individuals; and overdose prevention training and reversal kits.
  • Reentry Recovery Support Services: 17+ years old, family member or loved one impacted by mental health and/or substance use concerns, and returning from the justice system or currently incarcerated. Our general recovery support services framework, but delivered directly to those involved currently or in the past with the justice system.

Their community center, located at 106 Gay St, Fl 2, Philadelphia, PA 19154, is open 7 days a week for anyone to drop-in for a recovery meeting, recovery yoga class, to use our computer lab, or just have a safe space to be and support their recovery.
