Background:

National Health Corps (NHC) Public Health Corps is a new national AmeriCorps program that recruits, trains, and places 40 individuals annually in resource-limited organizations called "host sites” throughout California (Southern Inland), Delaware, Northeastern Pennsylvania, and Philadelphia.  NHC’s mission is to foster healthy communities by connecting those who need it most with health and wellness education, benefits, and services, while developing tomorrow’s  health leaders. The program does this through three main objectives. 

Objectives:

  • Decrease health disparities through addressing social determinants of health, including underlying structural oppression in communities plagued by histories of racial and economic inequities
  • Provide workforce development in community health worker, digital navigator and medical interpreter roles for a culturally representative, well-trained public health workforce
  •  Improve organizational efficiencies, community engagement and reach of services addressing social determinants of health.

JOB SUMMARY

Manages the field/site operations of the National Health Corps (NHC) Public Health Corps with partner operating sites (sub-grantees) in California (Southern Inland), Delaware, Northeastern Pennsylvania, and Philadelphia.

This position is a hybrid remote/on-site position that requires a minimum of two days per week in-person in the Philadelphia headquarters office.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Manage operating site field operations and communication among four operating sites, including scheduling and leading regular conference/video call/in person meetings with program staff, providing guidance, training and technical assistance for compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements; fostering team building, developing and updating program policy and procedure manuals and documents.
  •  Oversee and monitor  the NHC Program Coordinator to:
    • Conduct remote program monitoring of operating sites to ensure compliance with funder(s) regulations and to assess program strengths and weaknesses;
    • Co-review program operating site monthly invoice packages and work with Health Federation of Philadelphia grants management staff to complete required fiscal standards for operating sites;
    • Taking meeting minutes
  • Work closely with the NHC Program Director, NHC Public Health Corps Program Manager,  NHC Program Coordinator, and NHC and NHC Public Health Corps staff, members, consultants and relevant other stakeholders to develop standardized program activities including but not limited to  program training and marketing plans,  and member and host site recruitment processes, manage their implementation across all NHC Public Health Corps operating sites, and schedule and co-facilitate related collaborative trainings and information sessions.
  • Schedule and facilitate staff, host site and member subcommittee planning meetings throughout the year.
  • Co-develop, schedule and co-facilitate an annual staff meeting, two collaborative member Pre-Service Orientations, a collaborative host site orientation and meeting, and any other collaborative trainings and meetings related to the NHC and NHC Public Health Corps program.
  • Work with Program Director and evaluation team to conduct equity impact assessments and to co-manage oversight of NHC Public Health Corps operating site evaluation data collection activities including performance measures, client, member and host site surveys
  • Work with Program Director on overseeing and monitoring progress of NHC staff and members on implementation of the program’s strategic and action plan
  • Supervise program interns; and
  • Assist with the administration of other NHC program activities, including meeting minute taking, grant writing and fundraising activities as needed and assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • Master’s Degree in public health, social work, public administration or other relevant field OR equivalent experience

Skills/Experience

  • 3-5 years of experience in managing and administering federally and state-funded public health,  community service/human service programs;
  • Highly organized and systems oriented;
  • Strong leadership, problem solving, collaborative and mentoring skills;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Very strong computer skills, including knowledge and strong ability to use Google and Microsoft products, including Excel and Google Sheets. 
  • Knowledge and strong ability to use video conferencing (Zoom) platforms, as well scheduling platforms (eg. Doodle).
  • Knowledge and ability to manage Website, application and recruitment systems
  • Very strong attention to detail 
  • Able to handle multiple tasks and manage project timelines in a fast paced, and evolving environment
  • Knowledge and skills conducting internet and database research 
  • Ability to work with a variety of cultures and diverse audiences
  • AmeriCorps experience preferred but not required

Supervision and Review:

The supervisor assigns work in terms of project objectives and basic priorities and is available for consultation when assistance is required and in resolving controversial issues. The work is reviewed for accuracy through spot checks, through concerns raised by stakeholders, and through observation of the employee at work.

Work Environment:

Standard office setting with extended periods at work station and periodic use of office equipment.

Position Type and Work Schedule:

Full time position typical hours are Monday through Friday 9am to 5pm. Flex schedule options available with supervisor approval.  Some occasional evening and weekend work may be required.

Travel:

Travel to Washington D.C once annually. Potential to travel up to 3 operating site cities (Southern Inland California, Delaware, and Northeast Pennsylvania) annually.
